We are working hard to get The Wiggle Room open and have some fantastic news…we PASSED our final inspection!!! That means we’ll be opening our doors soon. We have our soft opening planned for family and friends (by invitation only) on August 19th and we’re planning to open our doors to the public on August 21st, so mark your calendars! The Grand Opening will be in September and we are planning a great event for everybody. Keep your eyes open for that announcement.

We participated in the Stuff the Bus event to provide school supplies to underprivileged kids this upcoming school year.  If you made it to the event at Chick-fil-A at Waugh Chapel then you saw Gary make his first ever appearance. Here he is with Louie and the Chick-fil-A cow:

Thank you to the nearly 200 people who responded to our latest poll. We learned a lot from your responses.

Pricing

We are excited to announce that we have adjusted our pricing model based on many factors including, in large part, your feedback.. We based our other pricing model on some super conservative numbers, this was before we realized how excited the people in our community would be for our little establishment. So we’ve adjusted our attendance projections a little to allow for more attendance than we initially thought.  Here is what we’ve come up with:

Daily rate – $12/first child, $7/per sibling

Monthly memberships – $64 first child, $89 per family (unlimited siblings aged 5 and under)

Play passes – 5 pack $55, 10 pack $100, 15 pack $135

Classes – We are going to be offering a plethora of different classes. Based in part from your suggestions, we are planning to offer classes like, Speech Therapy, Baby Sign, Art, Science, Dance, Zumbini (zoomba for toddlers) and much more. We will have a suggestion box at the front for you to add your own class suggestions in.

We appreciate everyone’s feedback to help us make The Wiggle Room a part of our community. As parents of 3 kids under age 4 (3 months, 2 years, 3 years), we designed the Wiggle Room for what we would like to see as parents. We have taken our kids to nearly every type of activity under the sun in order to keep them active, and of course, keep ourselves sane. One of the things we found at these places is they are targeted only to the kids; which is great for them, but sucks for us. We were STRESSED OUT trying to keep an eye on them making sure they weren’t getting trampled by bigger kids or getting lost. Most had no place to sit, much less a place to nurse. Trying to get to a class as our toddler decides to have a meltdown walking out the door or decides to take an extra long nap was a NIGHTMARE.

The Wiggle Room is designed with parents in mind, and frankly, as the focus. It’s specific to ages 0-5 years old children so no big kids running over little kids. It’s large enough to have enough activities (large building blocks, library, crafts, kitchen…) to stay occupied for hours, yet small enough such that you can easily see & access your kids when needed. We believe that our children can learn, be entertained and burn off energy without sacrificing our own comfort.

The classes that we will offer (and we will offer them!) will be about everything and anything. It will have something for the kids, and for the parents. We’ll have speech therapy classes and we’ll have science classes. The endless possibilities of classes is….. endless. If you want a class, let us know. We’ll try to get one together for you!

So here’s what we got for parents:

We have a crawler’s corner physically separated from the “bigger” kid area and has its own seating area. It has sight lines to the “bigger” kid area for those parents with crawlers and runners.

Our main parent’s lounge has clear sight lines to the main play area and has comfortable seating with no obstructions such that you can easily get to your kids when needed. The chairs are big enough to accommodate your handbag, diaper bag or whatever and the arm rests are wide enough for a laptop or tablet.

We have a quiet room centrally located in the space for moms who prefer privacy while feeding or if a child needs a break to calm down. It’s equipped with two gliders, a Momaroo and a changing table.

We’re offering free fruit for the kids to hedge off hangry’ness and free coffee for the sleep deprived parents.

You Said It, We Did It: per our earlier poll, our hours accommodate stay-at-home families as well as working families. Mon – Fri 9am – 7pm; Sat – Sun 9am – 1pm. Birthday Parties Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Here’s what we have planned for the kiddos:

Hi Future Wigglers!

Gary the octopus here. I’m here to give you the 411 on the upcoming Wiggle Room. Also to tell you about job opportunities and a VERY important coffee update below. If you missed the first couple newsletters, you should check out our Facebook page and give them a look! So for this blog post, I’m going to pick up where I left off.

Paint

So, as of today, we have 12 paint samples on the wall. Thats right, 12 (thankfully I’ve got 8 arms so it went fairly quickly)! Let me tell you, it is HARD to pick paint. Like, really hard. Luckily, after some insight from my human friends, we’ve landed on a color for the main area. We are planing on keeping the color on the walls light and neutral-ish and then adding color in decorations and toys.

Carpet and Vinyl

We’ve ordered the carpet and the vinyl plank and once drywall and paint are finished, that will go down. Then the fun begins with putting the toys together! Luckily, Mike is pretty handy so it should go pretty smooth (contrary to what his wife is saying).

Job Opportunities

We are starting the hiring process in about 1-2 weeks of the date of this post. We are looking for both full and part time people. We want people that are energetic, happy and love customer service. We’ll make an announcement in about 2 weeks about how to apply. So look out for that.

Coffee

Then, there’s the coffee machine…. UGH! You know, things are much easier under the sea. There is WAY less Health Department bureaucracy there. So the issue is this, my coffee loving human friends, we want to provide a gourmet coffee experience for our parents… for FREE! You, the parents, are what we based our business around.  We want you to be able to come here, let your children have an enormous amount of fun all the while, you’re able to relax, work, read and have a gourmet cup of Joe.

So, here’s the rub: The Health Department is requiring a food service license if we plan to have any dairy. Which, of course, your gourmet cups of coffee, lattes, macchiatos or whatever you drink will have in it! So, why not just go get a food service license you ask? Well, that’s the easy part. The hard part is all the infrastructure required to have the license.

(I’m going to be real with you here for a minute) In order for us to have milk in a machine there are several things the county is requiring which are: a commercially rated Super Automatic Espresso Machine that is NSF rated or equivalent, a 3 compartment sink in the back for ware washing (like the parts to the machine and the mugs), a hand sink near the three compartment sink so that we can wash our hands after washing the dishes, a grease trap under the three compartment sink (to catch the ‘grease’ or milk fat from the milk we’ll be washing off the parts and mugs), a commercial cold storage refrigerator (which really isn’t that big of a deal), the architect needs to submit new plans with all the modifications to the county and a partridge in a pear tree…

So, ok what if we have a machine that doesn’t have milk? Like a super heavy duty Keurig? Then we don’t need a food service license at all! In fact, we don’t need to have anything from the county. As long as we have shelf stable creamers and K-Cup pod type coffee then we don’t need anything. The only problem with that, is that it isn’t very gourmet. That doesn’t really scream high end coffee and that is exactly the opposite of what we want.

So here’s the biggest shock. (I’m going to get real with you again) The price difference between the two. So the first option with the gourmet coffee and all the Health Department regulations will cost us about $16,000 which includes a $7,000 coffee machine. Wait, What!? $7K for a freakin coffee machine? Just get a cheaper one! Been down there… Still down there… We can’t get anything cheaper than that because there isn’t any commercially approved self serve Super Automatic Espresso Machines cheaper than that. That literally is the cheapest one we found. The super heavy duty Keurig? About $650. No infrastructure. No grease trap. No Health Department.

So what are you going to do? Well, thats the $16,000 question (see what I did there?). What we are more than likely going to do, is just do it. We believe in The Wiggle Room so much and it’s customers that we are going to do it and know that you, the parent, will LOVE it!
