Hi Future Wigglers!

Gary the octopus here. I’m here to give you the 411 on the upcoming Wiggle Room. Also to tell you about job opportunities and a VERY important coffee update below. If you missed the first couple newsletters, you should check out our Facebook page and give them a look! So for this blog post, I’m going to pick up where I left off.


So, as of today, we have 12 paint samples on the wall. Thats right, 12 (thankfully I’ve got 8 arms so it went fairly quickly)! Let me tell you, it is HARD to pick paint. Like, really hard. Luckily, after some insight from my human friends, we’ve landed on a color for the main area. We are planing on keeping the color on the walls light and neutral-ish and then adding color in decorations and toys.

Carpet and Vinyl

We’ve ordered the carpet and the vinyl plank and once drywall and paint are finished, that will go down. Then the fun begins with putting the toys together! Luckily, Mike is pretty handy so it should go pretty smooth (contrary to what his wife is saying).

Job Opportunities

We are starting the hiring process in about 1-2 weeks of the date of this post. We are looking for both full and part time people. We want people that are energetic, happy and love customer service. We’ll make an announcement in about 2 weeks about how to apply. So look out for that.


Then, there’s the coffee machine…. UGH! You know, things are much easier under the sea. There is WAY less Health Department bureaucracy there. So the issue is this, my coffee loving human friends, we want to provide a gourmet coffee experience for our parents… for FREE! You, the parents, are what we based our business around.  We want you to be able to come here, let your children have an enormous amount of fun all the while, you’re able to relax, work, read and have a gourmet cup of Joe.

So, here’s the rub: The Health Department is requiring a food service license if we plan to have any dairy. Which, of course, your gourmet cups of coffee, lattes, macchiatos or whatever you drink will have in it! So, why not just go get a food service license you ask? Well, that’s the easy part. The hard part is all the infrastructure required to have the license.

(I’m going to be real with you here for a minute) In order for us to have milk in a machine there are several things the county is requiring which are: a commercially rated Super Automatic Espresso Machine that is NSF rated or equivalent, a 3 compartment sink in the back for ware washing (like the parts to the machine and the mugs), a hand sink near the three compartment sink so that we can wash our hands after washing the dishes, a grease trap under the three compartment sink (to catch the ‘grease’ or milk fat from the milk we’ll be washing off the parts and mugs), a commercial cold storage refrigerator (which really isn’t that big of a deal), the architect needs to submit new plans with all the modifications to the county and a partridge in a pear tree…

So, ok what if we have a machine that doesn’t have milk? Like a super heavy duty Keurig? Then we don’t need a food service license at all! In fact, we don’t need to have anything from the county. As long as we have shelf stable creamers and K-Cup pod type coffee then we don’t need anything. The only problem with that, is that it isn’t very gourmet. That doesn’t really scream high end coffee and that is exactly the opposite of what we want.

So here’s the biggest shock. (I’m going to get real with you again) The price difference between the two. So the first option with the gourmet coffee and all the Health Department regulations will cost us about $16,000 which includes a $7,000 coffee machine. Wait, What!? $7K for a freakin coffee machine? Just get a cheaper one! Been down there… Still down there… We can’t get anything cheaper than that because there isn’t any commercially approved self serve Super Automatic Espresso Machines cheaper than that. That literally is the cheapest one we found. The super heavy duty Keurig? About $650. No infrastructure. No grease trap. No Health Department.

So what are you going to do? Well, thats the $16,000 question (see what I did there?). What we are more than likely going to do, is just do it. We believe in The Wiggle Room so much and it’s customers that we are going to do it and know that you, the parent, will LOVE it!
